"Unfinish Line..."

~"One of these days, is none of these days.~ H. G Bohn

When I the PS2 dropped, I fell in love with a series of video games called the "Prince of Persia". There were several iterations, but they all had one thing in common. The "Hero" could slow or stop time. Badazz right? I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved playing those games and even to this day my fondest memories were of spending hours upon hours going from level to level, fighting enemies, solving riddles, and avoiding traps. As with most platform games, there were certain points in which the game would require me to slow down or stop time in order to accomplish a goal. The further you got the harder the levels got and the shorter the time to accomplish the goal. I can't tell you how many times the timer would spark a bad decision to move and or rush a jump to get through a level. Soooooo...yeah...I would die.... Alot. Then I would get super, extra cautious. (Wait... can I say that? "Super extra cautious"?) Anyway.... I would wait...and wait...and wait and then still die. See that there? Get it yet? No? If you don't yet, that's okay. Let me move on and I will bring it all back in a few and by trying a different track. I had someone say to me that there are seven days in the week and "someday" wasn't one of them. At the time I barely understood how impactful and important it would be to my life or to my philosophies. Before I found my passion and my purpose I used a wealth of excuses as to why I had to wait before taking the steps in my journey. Slow poke.... Here is the funny thing about time. We think we have plenty of it... until we don't. To make matters more vexing...everyone thinks they know how to use it and just as importantly how to spend it. The truth is closer to the fact that most of us completely misunderstand it. As we journey to our "Space" wherever, whenever and whatever that may be, the fine balance of patience and the being comfortable and stuck is one of the hardest things most of us can do. Cautious much? Here is the thing. Too often we find ourselves teetering from side to side, hoping not to fall. And yet it happens more often than we want to acknowledge. Losing our footing to complacency is super easy when you don't understand how quickly it can become a way of being. It can creep up on you more quickly than you expect. One side covering you in a warm embrace making you comfortable and relaxed as you watch the world go by. And your opportunities along with it. Sometimes we forget that the comfort zone can be the place where our dreams go to die, especially if we visit too often when we are in the space of being patient. Does that sound like I am telling you patience is bad? Of course not. I am also not telling anyone to rush Through or To anything. There is a space and place for speed, just as there is a space and a place for being still or...in this case being patient. But that should not be your constant or consistent state. If it is then we have just gone from "Patient" to "Procrastinate" in 0.5 seconds. So... you might be wondering where I am going with this.... and that is not only fine, it is preferred. This is your journey and to willingly accept every single word I say without question will never benefit you. Now...I told you I would bring it all in right? Ready? Here is a metaphor. The farmer must still prepare for the harvest even though he is during planting. Do you get it? Does that make sense? You have to use patience when it is needed, but still be mindful not to become both comfortable AND complacent. There is still work to be done. We have to be patient AND passionate enough about your goals to know when to wait and when to move. And why it is important to move. Time has never waited for anyone and as your most valuable commodity you have to use it efficiently AND effectively. I don't play video games like I used to, much less the Prince of Persia. But the lessons from that time still make sense. Your journey will be full of moments where you have a measure of success and you feel like you can stop. Never stop. Pause instead and then plan your next step. There is always another journey to be taken, another lesson to be learned. Move.... A object in motion... stays in motion. Speaker... Author ... Coach ...
